Why do we love this case?

This is McLaren Vale at full throttle. The Premium McLaren Vale Trio brings together three standout Shiraz that showcase the region’s signature richness, power, and finesse.

Featuring two beautifully aged heavy-hitters alongside a bold, modern release, this lineup delivers layers of dark fruit, spice, and structure, with the kind of depth that only comes from top-tier fruit and careful winemaking. These are wines built to impress - plush, powerful, and unapologetically full-flavoured.

With RRPs stacking up well north of the case price, this is a rare chance to get your hands on some seriously premium McLaren Vale Shiraz without the usual sting. Big wines, big names, and even bigger value. 🍷

1x Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz 2016

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

Some of the fruit here comes off a McLaren Vale vineyard planted back in 1910 - gnarly old bush vines that have been tended by three generations of the same family. It’s a patch of dirt with deep clay soils, east-west rows to shield the fruit from the harsh summer sun, and roots that stretch forever thanks to access to good water. Translation: Vines that dig deep and deliver concentration, balance and serious power. This wine has helped put this producer firmly on the map - you'll know what we men as soon as you see the label. It’s approachable enough to drink young if you can’t wait, but built for the cellar if you’ve got patience. Either way, it’s a reserve-level shiraz with history in its bones and proof in the pudding.

You'd pay $170 full price.

1x Ulithorne Frux Frugis Shiraz 2018

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

Welcome to this producer’s flagship wine. All parents say they don’t have a favourite child, but we’re pretty sure this would be the one for our star McLaren Vale producer. Picking the premium, low-yielding fruit from their vineyards, they’ve succeeded in creating a magnificently concentrated wine. There’s some parcels of fruit that go into American oak, and some in French. Some new and some old. It hits all the notes and comes together in a symphony of black and blue fruits. C’mon, those scores from the experts really speak for themselves on this one. But if we were to give you a short review from our team, it’d be this: don’t pass on the opportunity to get this in your glass.

1x Schild Estate Narrow Road Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

Rich, ripe and smoother than a Barry White song. This wine's been seriously cared for, hand picked, cold soaked before fermentation, to build complexity in the fruit, then aged in oak for 18-24 months, again, complexity. A cleverly crafted wine that balances all out attack and subtle beauty in a masterful fashion. Dark cherries and plums with chocolatey oak notes and a hint of allspice, this wine taste exactly how you'd expect a premium Barossa wine to taste and can really hold its own against some of the real heavy-hitters of the region. Yes, this is a wine the looks fantastic but, as with most things, it's what's on the inside of the bottle that counts.

You'd pay $105 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and ancient geological soils create Shiraz with a unique combination of power and elegance that's hard to replicate elsewhere. The region's proximity to the ocean moderates temperatures, allowing grapes to develop intense flavours while retaining natural acidity. This trio showcases the region's signature style - rich, full-bodied wines with layers of dark fruit, spice, and that distinctive McLaren Vale earthiness that comes from iron-rich soils.

The vintage variation (2016, 2018, and 2021) offers a fascinating journey through recent McLaren Vale history, showing how the same region expresses itself differently across seasons. The 2016 Fox Creek Reserve has had time to develop secondary flavours and integrate tannins, while the 2021 Schild Estate represents youthful power and primary fruit intensity. This range demonstrates how premium Shiraz evolves, giving you both immediate drinking pleasure and wines with further ageing potential.

These powerful McLaren Vale Shiraz wines are perfect partners for rich, flavourful dishes that can match their intensity. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks, grilled ribeye steaks, or hearty beef stews where the wine's tannins complement the protein's richness. The chocolate and spice notes also make them excellent with aged hard cheeses or even dark chocolate desserts. The key is matching the wine's full-bodied nature with equally robust flavours.

Store these bottles on their side in a cool, dark place at around 12-15°C to preserve their complex flavours and allow continued development. Serve at 16-18°C to showcase their full aromatic profile - too cold and you'll miss the nuanced spice and fruit characters. Consider decanting the older vintages (especially the 2016) for 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to breathe and fully express its developed complexity.

The consistently high scores (94-96 points) from respected critics like Huon Hooke and James Halliday indicate these are exceptional examples of McLaren Vale Shiraz, not just good regional wines. These ratings reflect technical excellence in winemaking, optimal fruit selection, and the wines' ability to express their terroir authentically. When multiple critics award similar high scores, it suggests these wines offer both immediate appeal and the structure for long-term cellaring, making them excellent investment pieces for any serious wine collection.
