1x Reschke Empyrean Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

This might well be our new benchmark for Coonawarra cabernet. From an absolute Mofo favourite producer, and the ripping 2016 vintage - this is as good as Coonawarra cabernet gets around here. A wine that gets the utmost attention at every stage of the winemaking process: the vineyard is hand-pruned, keeping yields low and flavours concentrated. Only hand-selected new French oak is used for ageing. This has been resting in perfect conditions in the winery’s cellar for nearly a decade, so what was, in it’s youth, a massive, nearly explosive wine, to the point of perfect drinking with mind-blowing complexity and length. If you’re after the finest that Coonawarra can achieve, then this is it right here.

You'd pay $200 full price.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

We’ve now seen many a ripper vintage of this baby. It’s one deal that flies out the door and into your kitchen. For those in the know, you're never disappointed once you pull the cork. A cellar release with a lucky 8 years of evolution - give it a burl, and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. Usually exclusive to the wine producer’s database, this trickles out to us only when we are lucky, somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get on that lucky list.

Boisterous tannins that have mellowed to a brooding, silky palate, with chunky fruit joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo - you too should be so lucky!

You'd pay $103 full price.

1x Reschke Bos Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

Yep, believe what you're seeing. This is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The needle in the haystack. The one you've been searching for. The perfect drop. It is quite a joyful moment when we get our hands on aged cabernet, from a top producer in the world-famous Coonawarra region. What better wine to show with some age than a cabernet, after all? Vibrant blackcurrant and oak have come together, tannins mellowed and earthy, secondary elements emerged. Unless you have a cellar full of aged wine, this is possibly the best chance to pick up some absolutely stunning aged cab for a stupidly good price.

You'd pay $60 full price.

1x Reschke Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

This family winery have been landowners in Coonawarra for over 100 years. They are Coonawarra experts and the jewel in their crown is, of course, cabernet sauvignon. Their wines consistently score highly with critics and this 2020 cellar release is a showcase of a deep understanding of the land and masterstroke winemaking.

The blackberry fruit concentration is immense and elevated by fine, dancing tannin. It wouldn't be Coonawarra without the marriage of mint and tobacco, rounding out mouth-feel and driving complexity. This is fantastic drinking now and will age gracefully for another decade.

You'd pay $90 full price.

1x Reschke Vitulus Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Coonawarra — Australia

Coonawarra is an endless treasure trove, and we've just struck more gold. Shiraz at it's fresh, lively best. Abundantly fruited, smoooth drinking shiraz that's winning hearts. Reschke know their way around a good bottle of wine, and that doesn't just apply to their famed Coonawarra cabernets. Dark red fruits are complimented by red cherry, cranberry, with touches of allspice and pepper for a generous seasoning. It’s all you could ask for and more.

You'd pay $55 full price.

1x Reschke Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Limestone Coast — Australia

South Australia’s Limestone Coast is not quite as famous as a few neighbouring regions, and as a result the value to be found there is staggering. Take this delicious cabernet from a rock solid mofo fave producer. At this price, get set for your mind to be blown. It’s got the trademark florality of your classic Coonawarra cabs, although we’re talking more intense black forest fruits and pepper rather than your typical violets and berries. It’s supple yet dense, perfect for knocking a few back any day of the week. Here we come, cabernet town!

You'd pay $40 full price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reschke has built their reputation on remarkable consistency across both vintages and wine ranges, which is quite rare in the industry. Their ability to deliver generous fruit expression with well-integrated oak and beautiful aged characteristics year after year has made them a favourite among wine enthusiasts. The fact that they've achieved multiple 95-96 point ratings from respected critics like James Halliday and Wine Orbit demonstrates their commitment to quality winemaking.

This collection showcases Reschke's evolution and consistency over seven years of winemaking, allowing you to taste how their style has developed while maintaining their signature quality. Vintage variation in wine reflects the unique weather conditions of each year, so comparing a 2015 RSR with a 2021 Vitulus gives you insight into how terroir and time influence flavour development. It's essentially a masterclass in how great producers adapt to different seasons while maintaining their house style.

Each Cabernet represents a different tier in Reschke's hierarchy, from the premium Empyrean and RSR (likely Reserve Special Release) down to their Cellar Reserve and standard Reserve bottlings. The Bos Cabernet adds another dimension, possibly representing a specific vineyard block or winemaking approach. These different expressions allow you to understand how the same variety can be crafted into distinct styles, from more accessible everyday drinking wines to complex, age-worthy flagships.

These flavour descriptors indicate wines with excellent complexity and proper maturation. The fruit notes like blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant show healthy, ripe grapes, while cedar suggests quality oak integration rather than overwhelming wood flavours. Leather, cocoa, and spice notes typically develop through proper cellaring and indicate wines that have been given time to evolve, creating the tertiary flavours that separate good wines from great ones.

Given that some wines are marked as 'Museum Release' and 'From the Cellar', many of these bottles are already at drinking maturity and showcase beautiful aged characteristics. However, premium Cabernet Sauvignon from quality producers like Reschke can continue to develop for years, so you could enjoy some now to appreciate their current state and cellar others to experience how they evolve. The 2021 Vitulus Shiraz, being the youngest, likely has the most cellaring potential ahead of it.
