1x Hewitson Cask 66 Shiraz 2023

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

The Boss

From one of our favourite Barossa producers, who have brought us multiple 98 and 99 pointed drops before, comes this incredible special release shiraz that will continue to improve for the next 20 years. Careful maturation in specially selected highest-grade French oak, followed by barrel selection of the finest juice, has helped craft this unparalleled expression of the country's top grape/region combination. Compellingly complex, the nose shows rich, ripe plums and bramble fruit with black cherries. Supporting is an excellent intermingling of charcuterie, black olives, cocoa and liquorice. The palate is simultaneously refined and powerful, with beautifully ripe tannins and a clean line of acidity supporting an incredibly long finish. This is premium Barossa at it's absolute best.

You'd pay $490 full price.

1x Angove Family Winemakers 1886 Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This wine was crafted using traditional techniques at the historic, century-old Angove winery. After gentle de-stemming, wild fermentation was embraced in open fermenters to let the site’s character shine. Twice-daily hand plunging and pump-overs built colour, structure and complexity. Once dry, the wine was basket-pressed and sent to French oak for a long, slow maturation. Blackberry compote, aniseed and crushed herbs leap from the glass, supported by overt cedar and warming spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a velvety texture that weaves dark plum, mocha and savoury oak into a seamless whole. Bright acidity and fine tannins stretch the finish long and clean. This is Barossa done beautifully. Drink now - it'll last for 10 years in the cellar but just drink it, it's so good right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

The standout shiraz in this collection earned an exceptional 98-point score from Wine Orbit, placing it in the elite tier of Australian wines where only the most outstanding expressions achieve such recognition. This score indicates a wine of remarkable complexity, perfect balance, and exceptional ageing potential that will continue developing beautifully in the cellar. Combined with double 96-point ratings and a 4.1 Vivino rating from wine lovers worldwide, this bottle represents the pinnacle of Australian shiraz craftsmanship.

This multi-regional collection showcases how Australia's diverse wine regions each contribute unique characteristics to red wine styles. Different soil types, climates, and elevations across various regions create distinct flavour profiles - from the rich, chocolatey notes typical of warmer regions to the more elegant, spice-driven expressions from cooler areas. This diversity means each bottle offers a different tasting experience, allowing you to explore how terroir influences the same grape varieties grown in different locations.

The rich, full-bodied nature of these reds makes them perfect companions for hearty, flavourful dishes that can match their intensity. The chocolate, coffee, and black olive notes pair beautifully with grilled red meats, aged cheeses, and dishes with earthy mushrooms or rich tomato-based sauces. The spice and vanilla characteristics also complement barbecued lamb, slow-cooked beef stews, and even dark chocolate desserts, creating harmonious flavour bridges between the wine's complexity and the food's richness.

Store these full-bodied reds in a cool, dark place at around 12-15°C to preserve their complex flavours and allow proper development. Serve them at cellar temperature (16-18°C) to fully appreciate their rich fruit characteristics and spice notes - too warm and the alcohol becomes prominent, too cold and the flavours become muted. Consider decanting the more premium bottles, especially the 98-point shiraz, for 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full complexity.

James Halliday's five-star rating represents the highest tier of Australian winery recognition, awarded only to producers who consistently demonstrate exceptional winemaking standards and outstanding wine quality. These ratings reflect not just individual wine scores, but the winery's overall reputation, consistency across their range, and contribution to Australian wine excellence. Having multiple five-star rated wineries in this collection ensures you're experiencing wines from Australia's most respected producers, each bringing decades of expertise and proven track records of quality.
