A little spicy, very aromatic and certainly built to age for a long time. Upon this wine’s release, Gran Corte was so clearly a triumph that leading South American wine reviewer Tim Atkin MW gave it a 97 point score. I’d say that’s pretty spot on.

Why do we love this wine?

Cab franc is the primary grape with smaller portions of malbec and cab sav. It starts with hand harvesting, followed by selection of first the bunches and then the individual grapes. The wine then sees 16 months in French oak. The finished wine is so compelling, so complex and so intensely delicious. The high-altitude vineyard provides minerality, structure and layering to deep, dark fruit flavours like blackcurrant, plum and cassis. Behind this are fine tannins and hints of graphite all leading to a velvety finish.

Herbal tobacco leaf aromas with a smoky note a leaf note across the fresh ripe palate embraced by fine crusty tannins. There is a lovely harmony to this ripe wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

While most Bordeaux blends lead with Cabernet Sauvignon, this Gran Corte is primarily Cabernet Franc with supporting roles from Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. This unusual composition, combined with Mendoza's high-altitude terroir, creates a wine with distinctive minerality and structure that you won't find in traditional French blends. The result is more elegant and complex than typical New World Cabernet blends, with the Cabernet Franc providing herbaceous notes and refined tannins.

High-altitude vineyards in Mendoza experience dramatic temperature swings between day and night, which slows grape ripening and preserves natural acidity while developing intense flavours. The thinner air and intense UV radiation at altitude stress the vines in beneficial ways, producing smaller berries with concentrated flavours and thicker skins. This translates directly into the wine's noted minerality, structured tannins, and the layered complexity that earned it multiple 96+ point scores from international critics.

The wine's rich blackcurrant and plum flavours, combined with its graphite minerality and velvety tannins, make it perfect for grilled red meats, especially Argentine beef or lamb. The tobacco notes and French oak influence also complement game meats, aged cheeses, and dishes with earthy mushrooms. Its structured tannins can handle bold flavours like chimichurri or mole, while the wine's elegance won't overpower more refined preparations like duck confit or herb-crusted rack of lamb.

The combination of meticulous winemaking - including hand harvesting, grape-by-grape selection, and 16 months in French oak - with exceptional terroir has created a wine that showcases Argentina's potential for world-class blends. Critics like Tim Atkin MW (97 points) and multiple International Wine Challenge trophies recognise not just the wine's immediate appeal, but its complexity and structure that rival the finest Bordeaux blends. The unusual Cabernet Franc-led blend demonstrates innovative thinking while maintaining classical winemaking principles.

With its structured tannins, balanced acidity from high-altitude growing conditions, and 16 months of French oak ageing, this wine has excellent cellaring potential of 10-15 years from vintage. While drinking beautifully now with its velvety finish, the wine will continue developing secondary flavours like leather, cedar, and dried herbs over the next 5-8 years. The Cabernet Franc backbone provides natural elegance that will evolve gracefully, making 2025-2030 the optimal drinking window for maximum complexity.
