Why do we love this wine?

From the prized southern part of the sun-drenched Barossa, steeped in quality grown shiraz (you know we’ve done the research). It’s right here, where the surrounding views offer the picture-perfect painting; a diversity of colours from the tree leaves to the soils, which in turn give our favourite grape - shiraz. A blend of hand-selected low-yielding parcels, you’ll find generous flavours of black fruit, olive and pepper spice, backed by silky tannins, yet the wine is intense on the palate, with a great depth and length.

Frequently Asked Questions

The southern Barossa enjoys a unique microclimate that's slightly cooler than the valley floor, allowing Shiraz grapes to ripen more slowly and develop greater complexity. This region's diverse soils - from red clay to sandy loam - contribute to the wine's distinctive character, while the lower yields from hand-selected parcels ensure concentrated flavours. The result is a Shiraz that balances the region's signature power with elegant structure and remarkable depth.

The plum flavours come directly from the ripe Shiraz fruit, while chocolate notes develop through the wine's interaction with oak during maturation and the natural tannin structure. Vanilla characteristics typically emerge from careful oak treatment, where the wine absorbs compounds from the barrel wood. These flavours integrate beautifully with the black fruit and pepper spice mentioned in the tasting notes, creating a complex flavour profile that evolves as the wine opens up in your glass.

Scores of 95-96 points from multiple respected wine publications indicate this is an exceptional wine that represents outstanding quality and value. These ratings suggest the wine demonstrates perfect balance, complexity, and ageing potential that places it among Australia's finest Shiraz examples. The consistency across different critics - Wine Orbit, Wine Pilot, and Wine Showcase - confirms this isn't just one reviewer's opinion, but a broadly recognised achievement in winemaking.

While this 2021 Shiraz is drinking beautifully now with its silky tannins providing immediate appeal, its full-bodied structure and exceptional ratings suggest excellent cellaring potential. The wine's intensity, depth, and length indicate it will continue developing complexity over the next 8-12 years. If drinking now, decanting for 30-60 minutes will help the wine open up and showcase its complete flavour spectrum.

This full-bodied Shiraz with its black fruit, olive, and pepper spice characteristics pairs magnificently with rich, flavourful dishes. Think slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, grilled ribeye steak, or hearty game meats where the wine's intensity can match the food's richness. The silky tannins also make it excellent with aged hard cheeses or dark chocolate desserts, while the pepper notes complement dishes with Mediterranean herbs and spices.
