Why do we love this wine?

Don't get it wrong, this is a rich, full-bodied wine, made in the tradition of the world-famous Barolos/Barbarescos of the Piemonte. An intense yet inviting nose of dried herbs, plush herbs and freshly flowered roses somewhat belies the power of the palate. A two year stint in barrel adds a bit of grunt and adds a spicy structure to balance pretty florals and bright red fruits, both typical of the variety. This is a Nebbiolo d'Alba that even the most stubborn of Barolo drinkers will find a soft-spot for.

Frequently Asked Questions

While sharing the same noble Nebbiolo grape as Barolo, this Alba expression offers exceptional value without compromising on quality. The Alba designation allows for slightly more approachable tannins and earlier drinking pleasure, while still delivering the characteristic rose petals, tar, and red fruit complexity that makes Nebbiolo legendary. It's essentially Barolo's more accessible cousin, perfect for discovering why this grape is considered one of Italy's greatest.

This 2021 Nebbiolo is already showing beautifully but will reward patience over the next 8-12 years. The two-year barrel aging has provided structure, but Nebbiolo's naturally high tannins and acidity mean it will continue evolving, developing more complex tertiary flavours like leather, truffle, and dried roses. You can enjoy it now with a decant, or cellar it in cool, dark conditions for maximum potential.

Nebbiolo's high acidity and firm tannins make it perfect for rich, fatty dishes that need cutting through. Think slow-braised beef, aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano, or classic Piemontese dishes like brasato al Barolo. The wine's earthy, herbal notes also complement mushroom risottos and game meats beautifully, while its floral character won't overpower delicate preparations.

This aromatic contradiction is Nebbiolo's signature calling card and what makes it so fascinating. The grape naturally produces intense floral compounds, particularly rose-like terpenes, which create that inviting bouquet. However, Nebbiolo also has some of the highest tannin levels of any red grape, plus naturally high acidity, creating that powerful, structured palate. This beautiful tension between elegance and power is why Nebbiolo is revered by wine enthusiasts worldwide.

Absolutely - Bosio has earned recognition as an 'Iconic Producer' with multiple accolades including 'Buyer's Pick' status. Located in the heart of Piemonte, they represent the traditional winemaking approach that has made this region famous for Nebbiolo. Their commitment to barrel aging and classic techniques ensures their wines capture the authentic character of Alba's terroir, making them a reliable choice for both newcomers and seasoned Nebbiolo drinkers.
