This is classy Bordeaux without the stiff collar. From the Côtes de Bourg and made by one of the region’s quietly brilliant winemakers, this 2022 has refinement and luxury at its core, but it still knows how to have a good time at the table.

Why do we love this wine?

Straight off the bat, the nose pulls you in with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and red currant, layered with a floral flicker of violet and a subtle cocoa edge that keeps things interesting. On the palate it’s all about balance - generous fruit up front, gentle savoury and floral notes through the middle, and a clean, composed finish that doesn’t overstay its welcome. In short - this is some seriously classy stuff!

Frequently Asked Questions

Côtes de Bourg is one of Bordeaux's rising stars, located on the right bank where Merlot thrives in clay-limestone soils. Unlike the Left Bank's Cabernet Sauvignon dominance, this region produces more approachable, fruit-forward wines with excellent value. The terroir here creates wines with natural balance and elegance, as demonstrated by this Château Du Bois de Tau's impressive medal collection from international competitions.

The five gold medals from prestigious competitions like Berliner Wine Trophy and Concours Mondial reflect exceptional winemaking consistency and quality. These competitions judge wines blind against hundreds of others, making multiple golds particularly significant. The wine's balanced profile of ripe fruit, floral notes, and savoury complexity clearly impressed international panels, indicating this 2022 vintage punches well above its weight class.

The full-bodied texture and blackcurrant-cedar profile make this ideal for roasted meats, particularly lamb with herbs or beef bourguignon. The wine's savoury undertones and gentle tannins also complement mushroom dishes, aged cheeses, and even duck confit. The floral violet notes add elegance that pairs beautifully with Mediterranean cuisine featuring rosemary and thyme.

While delicious now, this structured Côtes de Bourg has the backbone for 5-8 years of cellaring. The cocoa and cedar notes will integrate further, while the fruit will develop more complex secondary flavours. Store it in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature, and you'll be rewarded with increased depth and sophistication as the wine evolves.

Yes, this wine is certified vegan, meaning no animal-derived fining agents like egg whites or isinglass were used during production. Many traditional Bordeaux wines use these clarifying agents, but Château Du Bois has chosen plant-based alternatives without compromising quality. This approach aligns with modern sustainable winemaking practices while maintaining the wine's impressive clarity and structure.
