This is classy Bordeaux without the stiff collar. From the Côtes de Bourg and made by one of the region’s quietly brilliant winemakers, this 2022 has refinement and luxury at its core, but it still knows how to have a good time at the table.

Why do we love this wine?

Straight off the bat, the nose pulls you in with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and red currant, layered with a floral flicker of violet and a subtle cocoa edge that keeps things interesting. On the palate it’s all about balance - generous fruit up front, gentle savoury and floral notes through the middle, and a clean, composed finish that doesn’t overstay its welcome. In short - this is some seriously classy stuff!

Frequently Asked Questions

Côtes de Bourg sits on the right bank of the Bordeaux region, where the limestone-clay soils and elevated vineyards create ideal conditions for Merlot-based blends. Unlike the Left Bank's Cabernet Sauvignon dominance, this appellation produces wines with softer tannins and more immediate approachability. The region's cooler microclimate and varied terroir contribute to the wine's balanced structure and elegant fruit expression you'll find in this 2022 vintage.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to showcase its complex aromatics and full-bodied structure. The wine's savoury notes and cedar undertones make it exceptional with grilled lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged cheeses like Roquefort. The blackcurrant and cherry flavours also complement duck confit beautifully, while the wine's balanced acidity cuts through rich, herb-crusted dishes perfectly.

The five gold medals from prestigious international competitions indicate exceptional quality across multiple judging panels. Competitions like the Berliner Wine Trophy and Concours Mondial represent blind tastings by wine professionals who evaluate hundreds of wines. This consistent recognition suggests the wine demonstrates outstanding balance, complexity, and typicity for its appellation - rare achievements that validate the winemaker's skill and vineyard quality.

This 2022 vintage is drinking beautifully now, with its fruit-forward character and balanced tannins making it immediately enjoyable. Merlot-based Bordeaux from Côtes de Bourg typically reach their peak within 3-8 years of vintage, so you have flexibility. The wine's structure suggests it will develop more savoury complexity over the next 2-3 years, but its current harmony of fruit and floral notes makes it perfect for immediate consumption.

Vegan certification means no animal-derived products were used during winemaking, particularly in the fining process where traditional agents like egg whites or fish bladder are sometimes used to clarify wine. Instead, plant-based or mineral fining agents achieved the wine's clarity and polish. This approach often results in wines that express their terroir more directly, which aligns perfectly with this wine's clean, composed finish and authentic varietal character.
