There's two undeniable truths about right bank Bordeaux; first and foremost, it's completely brilliant, but, normally, you have to dish out the big bucks to get your hands on the good stuff. Well, that's where we come in, call it luck, call it fate, call it whatever you want, but the reality is that this wine is everything you'd expect from a premium, highly awarded, professionally-aged Bordeaux, for fraction of the price.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

From the legendary right bank of Bordeaux, this premium drop was built to impress and built to last. And gee whiz, it's met the brief. Still bursting with lifted aromatics of blackcurrant and violet, it’s now developing those savoury notes we all love: think tobacco, leather, a touch of spice and that silky, sleek 'Bordeaux-ness' that you can't quite put your finger on. There structure is firm, the finish long, and the potential? Huge. After paying its debt to the wine gods in the cellar (for 14 years), it’s drinking impeccably right now, but this stunner's journey is far from over... honestly this is the type of wine that will outlast your patience. A proper head-turner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lussac-Saint-Émilion is a satellite appellation of the famous Saint-Émilion, located on Bordeaux's prestigious right bank. While it shares the same clay-limestone soils and Merlot-dominant blending traditions as its renowned neighbour, Lussac offers exceptional value with wines that express similar elegance and complexity. The cooler microclimate and slightly different soil composition create wines with distinctive mineral undertones and excellent ageing potential, making this 2011 vintage a perfect example of how satellite appellations can rival their more famous counterparts.

The 2011 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by challenging weather that ultimately produced wines of exceptional concentration and structure. Early season difficulties forced vines to work harder, resulting in smaller berries with intense flavour concentration. This Château du Moulin Noir has now reached its optimal drinking window after 14 years of careful cellaring, developing the complex savoury notes of tobacco and leather that define mature Bordeaux. The vintage's natural acidity and tannin structure mean this wine still has decades of evolution ahead.

Decant this wine 1-2 hours before serving to allow the complex aromatics of blackcurrant and violet to fully express themselves. Serve at 16-18°C in large Bordeaux glasses to concentrate the lifted aromatics and showcase the wine's silky texture. The full-bodied nature and firm structure make it perfect for rich dishes like roasted lamb, aged beef, or strong cheeses. Given its 14-year maturity, it's drinking beautifully now but will continue to develop more nuanced flavours over the next decade.

The wine's rich, full-bodied character and savoury development make it ideal for hearty, flavourful dishes that can match its intensity. Classic pairings include slow-cooked beef bourguignon, roasted duck with cherry sauce, or aged hard cheeses like Comté or aged Cheddar. The tobacco and leather notes that have developed also complement grilled portobello mushrooms or truffle-based dishes beautifully. The wine's structure and spice elements make it surprisingly good with dark chocolate desserts too.

After 14 years of careful ageing, this wine has reached a beautiful drinking plateau where primary fruit flavours have evolved into complex secondary characteristics. The description notes it's 'drinking impeccably right now' with perfect balance between fruit and savoury development. However, given Bordeaux's legendary longevity and this wine's firm structure, it will continue evolving for another 10-15 years, developing even more tertiary complexity. You can enjoy it immediately or cellar it further depending on your preference for fruit-forward versus more evolved, earthy characteristics.
