This wine has aged remarkably well. So much so that we had to double-check the vintage on the label (a couple of times). There's a vibrancy to the fruit that's seldom seen in wines of this age, particularly from Bordeaux. That said, the development and tertiary aspects of leather, tobacco, and enduring tannin are large part of what makes this wine so special.

Why do we love this wine?

Left bank Bordeaux is some of the best wine in the world. That's no overstatement, and we doubt anyone would dispute this fact. The problem with these wines is that they need time to settle into themselves and really show their true colours, also, they're usually very, very, very expensive. You guessed it, that's where we come in! We've done the aging for you, this wasn't a forgotten about wine that's been sitting in the back of a truck for 10 years - this is carefully, professionally aged Bordeaux, we've even taken care of the price for you. All you have to do is pop the cork and let yourself be transported to the old world.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine has been professionally aged for nearly a decade, allowing the tannins to soften and the complex flavours to integrate beautifully. Left bank Bordeaux typically requires 8-15 years to reach optimal drinking condition, and this 2014 vintage has hit that sweet spot where the leather, spice, and tobacco notes have mellowed into a harmonious expression. The careful aging process means you can enjoy it immediately without the wait that usually comes with premium Bordeaux.

This Bordeaux Supérieur represents classic Old World winemaking, emphasising terroir and restraint over fruit-forward power. The textured, savoury profile with leather and tobacco notes reflects the maritime climate and gravelly soils of Bordeaux, creating wines with earthy complexity rather than the ripe fruit bombs typical of warmer regions. The medium-bodied structure allows for food pairing versatility while maintaining the elegant, mineral-driven character that defines great Bordeaux.

The Berlin Wine Show gold medal indicates this wine competed successfully against international entries, while the 4.1 Vivino rating from actual consumers confirms its quality beyond professional judging. For a Bordeaux Supérieur at this price point, these accolades are particularly impressive as they demonstrate the wine punches well above its weight class. The combination of professional recognition and consumer approval suggests exceptional value in a region known for premium pricing.

The leather, spice, and tobacco notes make this ideal for rich, savoury dishes that complement rather than compete with these earthy flavours. Think slow-cooked lamb with herbs, aged cheeses like Roquefort or aged cheddar, or classic French bistro fare like coq au vin. The medium body and textured mouthfeel also pair beautifully with mushroom-based dishes or grilled meats where the wine's savoury complexity can enhance the umami elements.

While this 2014 is drinking beautifully now after its professional aging, quality Bordeaux can continue evolving for years beyond their initial peak. This wine likely has another 5-8 years of graceful development ahead, during which the spice and tobacco notes may become even more pronounced while maintaining its elegant structure. However, given that it's already perfectly balanced and expressive, there's no need to wait - it's ready to provide immediate pleasure.
