Why do we love this wine?

This is Barossa shiraz in rare form. Rich, ripe and full of character, it’s got that signature depth and generosity the region is famous for. Plum, prune and dark chocolate lead the way, with layers of leather, vanilla and roasted nuts courtesy of 26 months in oak (mostly American, around 20% new). It’s lush and juicy, but also beautifully structured - sweet tannins and regional spice keeping everything stitched together. A further couple of years in bottle has softened the edges, so it’s drinking beautifully already, though it’ll hold its shape for up to 8 years if you can resist. This is classic Barossa through and through - and at this price, it’s a proper cellar-filler.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Cimicky represents the quintessential Barossa style - rich, generous and deeply flavoured with that distinctive regional character. The 26-month oak maturation program using predominantly American oak creates a more pronounced vanilla and spice profile compared to French oak alternatives. The combination of Barossa's warm climate and ancient soils produces Shiraz with exceptional concentration and that signature 'sweet fruit' intensity that sets it apart from cooler climate Australian regions like Adelaide Hills or Tasmania.

While this wine is drinking beautifully now after additional bottle age has softened its edges, it has the structure to develop for up to 8 years from vintage. The sweet tannins and balanced acidity provide the backbone for extended cellaring, during which the primary fruit flavours will evolve into more complex tertiary notes. For immediate enjoyment, decant for 30-60 minutes to allow the wine to open up and showcase its full potential.

The wine's rich plum and chocolate notes, combined with leather and roasted nut complexity from oak aging, make it perfect for hearty red meat dishes. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks, grilled ribeye steak, or traditional Australian barbecue fare. The spice elements also complement game meats like venison or duck, while the wine's generosity can handle bold flavours like aged cheeses or dark chocolate desserts.

The consistent 95-point ratings from respected critics like Ken Gargett, Ray Jordan, and Wine Orbit reflect this wine's exceptional balance of power and finesse. Critics particularly value wines that showcase true regional character while maintaining elegance - this Shiraz delivers classic Barossa intensity without being overpowering. The sophisticated oak integration, structural integrity, and aging potential demonstrate winemaking excellence that justifies its recognition as representing Barossa Shiraz in 'rare form'.

The 26-month maturation in predominantly American oak barrels (around 20% new) is crucial to this wine's character development. American oak imparts more pronounced vanilla, coconut, and sweet spice notes compared to French oak, complementing Shiraz's natural dark fruit intensity. The extended aging period allows for gentle tannin integration while developing complex secondary flavours of leather and roasted nuts, creating layers of complexity that distinguish premium Barossa Shiraz from simpler expressions.
