There's no question. Châteauneuf Du Pape is one of the world's greatest wine making regions. This beauty gets us extremely excited - bright in all the right ways, dark in all the right places, right in the sweet spot. Not a hair out of place, this wine is a portrait you could stare at for hours and still find something new. Practically perfect.

Why do we love this wine?

This is serious, small-scale artisan Châteauneuf-du-Pape right here. Philippe Bravay, the man behind Domaine de Ferrand, looks after a grand total of only 5.5 hectares of organic vines. Many of these vines are almost 100 years old, providing all the subtle concentration and complexity that comes from such age. Bravay has earned quite the following for his life’s work, not only because of the quiet confidence and balance of his wines, but for their true scarcity. If you’re lucky enough to taste one, you’ll understand the devotion to Bravay. Wine critics feel much the same way, as evidenced by James Suckling's 96 point rating - no easy feat.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine comes from Philippe Bravay's tiny 5.5-hectare organic estate, making it incredibly rare in a region dominated by larger producers. The vines are nearly 100 years old, which naturally restricts yields and concentrates flavours in ways that younger plantings simply cannot achieve. This combination of minuscule production and ancient vines creates a wine with exceptional depth and complexity that has earned Bravay a cult following among collectors.

The 2022 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape benefited from a warm, dry growing season that allowed Grenache and its blending partners to reach optimal ripeness while maintaining good acidity. This vintage showcases the textured, savoury style that defines quality Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with the minerally backbone typical of the region's famous galets roulés (rounded stones) that store heat and reflect it back to the vines. The 96-point James Suckling rating suggests this vintage has captured the essence of what makes this appellation legendary.

The wine's allspice and blackberry notes, combined with its minerally finish, make it perfect for rich, slow-cooked dishes like braised lamb with herbs de Provence or wild boar stew. The textured, savoury profile also complements aged cheeses, particularly those from the Rhône Valley region, and grilled meats with Mediterranean seasonings. The wine's full body and organic farming practices mean it has the structure to stand up to bold flavours without being overwhelmed.

Philippe Bravay's reputation as a cult producer stems from his uncompromising approach to quality over quantity, managing just 5.5 hectares when many Châteauneuf-du-Pape estates span dozens of hectares. His commitment to organic viticulture and working with century-old vines creates wines of exceptional character that are virtually impossible to find outside of serious wine circles. The scarcity factor, combined with consistently outstanding quality that attracts 96-point ratings, has created a devoted following among collectors who understand that tasting a Domaine de Ferrand wine is a rare privilege.

Store this Châteauneuf-du-Pape in a cool, dark place at around 12-15°C, and serve it at 16-18°C to allow the complex aromatics to fully express themselves. Given the wine's full-bodied nature and the concentration from old vines, decanting for 30-60 minutes before serving will help soften any tannins and allow the allspice and blackberry characteristics to emerge. This 2022 vintage can be enjoyed now but has the structure to cellar for 10-15 years, during which time the minerally elements will integrate beautifully with the fruit.
