If you love the absolute king of Italian grapes but do not have the patience to cellar a Barolo for ten years, this is your jam. Sourced from the dizzying heights of Monforte d'Alba, this 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo is a complete belter. It is packing all that wild red cherry, crushed rose petal and earthy spice you crave, wrapped up in a seriously slurpable package that is good to go the second you pop the cork.

Why do we love this wine?

The Manzone family have been quietly excelling in Piedmont since 1925. Giovanni Manzone and his family work some of the steepest, highest-elevation vineyards in the entire Monforte d'Alba zone. Farming at this extreme altitude is absolutely not for the faint of heart, but it is their secret sauce. The cool nights and intense sunshine give the grapes electric natural acidity and massive flavour concentration.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Langhe Nebbiolo represents the more approachable side of Piedmont's noble grape variety. Unlike the stricter DOCG regulations of Barolo and Barbaresco, Langhe Nebbiolo allows for more flexible winemaking and earlier drinking. The high-altitude vineyards in Monforte d'Alba still deliver the classic Nebbiolo character of sour cherry and spice, but in a medium-bodied style that's ready to enjoy now rather than requiring years of cellaring.

The Manzone family's extreme high-elevation vineyards create a unique microclimate that's crucial for Nebbiolo's development. Cool nights preserve the grape's naturally high acidity, while intense daytime sunshine concentrates flavours without over-ripening. This altitude differential is what gives the wine its electric acidity and the ability to express both power and elegance - a hallmark of truly great Piedmontese wines.

The wine's savoury profile with black olive and spice notes makes it perfect for traditional Piedmontese cuisine like brasato al Barolo or tajarin pasta with white truffles. The medium body and bright acidity also complement grilled lamb, aged cheeses like Gorgonzola, or even hearty mushroom risotto. The textured mouthfeel can handle rich, umami-driven dishes without being overwhelmed.

Since 1925, the Manzone family has been quietly perfecting their craft in one of Piedmont's most challenging terroirs. Nearly a century of experience has taught them how to work the steep, high-altitude vineyards that many producers would consider too difficult to farm. This generational knowledge is evident in their ability to consistently produce wines that capture both the power and finesse that Nebbiolo is capable of expressing.

Yes, this Langhe Nebbiolo is designed for earlier enjoyment compared to its more structured Barolo siblings. The 2024 vintage showcases fresh sour cherry fruit and spice that's already harmonious and approachable. While it will certainly develop more complexity over the next 3-5 years, the wine's medium body and balanced acidity make it delicious to drink now, especially with food.
