Why do we love this wine?

Wild Earth are a solid mofo favourite and absolute darlings of the wine press, too. Central Otago pinot noir are world-class, and really don’t get any better (or more trophies and awards) than this. Crafting exceptional wines year after year, we find it such a pleasure to taste every new vintage. The 2021’s are fantastic. From a ripping Bannockburn vineyard in Central Otago, ‘Earth & Sky’ has everything: elegance, grace, poise, and power. There is a seductive bouquet of black fruits on the nose, with a touch of the tertiary mushroom complexity. Expect dark cherry, plum and thyme on the plate, this has it all in check, composed and confident. Whether you’re looking to impress your lover, or hide a few bottles away - this is the pinot for the job.

This youthful, finely crafted red was grown at two Bannockburn sites and matured for a year in French oak barriques (24% new). Deep, bright ruby, it is deliciously mouthfilling and sweet-fruited, with rich, ripe cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, complex, vigorous, savoury and lingering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Central Otago's unique continental climate with hot days and cool nights creates ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grapes to develop intense flavours while retaining natural acidity. The region's schist soils and high altitude vineyards produce wines with exceptional concentration and complexity. This terroir combination results in Pinot Noirs that rival the best from Burgundy, with Central Otago now recognised as one of the world's premier Pinot Noir regions.

Serve this full-bodied Pinot Noir slightly below room temperature at 16-18°C to showcase its elegant structure and complex aromatics. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to open up and reveal its tertiary mushroom complexity. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place - this 2021 vintage will continue to develop beautifully over the next 8-10 years, with the dark fruit flavours evolving into more savoury, earthy notes.

The wine's full-bodied nature and dark fruit profile make it perfect for roasted duck, lamb, or venison, where the plum and dark cherry flavours complement rich meats beautifully. The subtle cedar and chocolate notes also pair excellently with mushroom-based dishes, aged cheeses, or even dark chocolate desserts. Its elegant structure means it won't overpower lighter dishes like salmon or tuna, making it versatile for both casual dinners and special occasions.

The exceptional scores, including 98 points from Winestate and 97 from Wine Orbit, place this wine in the top tier of New Zealand Pinot Noirs. These ratings from respected critics and Masters of Wine indicate consistent excellence in winemaking, with the multiple gold medals confirming its outstanding quality across different judging panels. Such high scores for a 2021 vintage suggest this wine has both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential.

Jen Parr is one of New Zealand's most accomplished winemakers, recognised as Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Wine Traveller in 2019. Her unique approach of working 30 vintages across 16 years by splitting time between Northern and Southern hemispheres has given her unparalleled experience with Pinot Noir. This constant refinement of technique across different climates and terroirs translates into wines of exceptional consistency and complexity, making her involvement a mark of serious quality.
