Why do we love this wine?

A cellar release with a lucky 9 years of evolution - give it a burl, and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. Usually exclusive to the wine producer’s database, this trickles out to us only when we are lucky, somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get on that lucky list.

Boisterous tannins that have mellowed to a brooding, silky palate, with chunky fruit joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo - you too should be so lucky!

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine has been carefully aged for 9 years, allowing the initially boisterous tannins to mellow into a silky, brooding palate. Cellar releases like this are typically held back by producers until they reach optimal drinking condition, which is why it's usually exclusive to Reschke's database. The extended ageing has transformed the wine's structure whilst preserving its classic Cabernet character, making it a rare find that's just entering its prime drinking window.

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil over limestone creates ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with exceptional structure and longevity. This RSR showcases the region's signature herbaceous notes of rosemary and thyme alongside classic cassis and blackberry flavours. The cool climate and unique terroir contribute to the wine's ability to age gracefully, developing complexity whilst maintaining freshness - exactly what you'll find in this mature 2015 vintage.

Decant this wine 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the mature flavours to fully express themselves. Serve at cellar temperature (16-18°C) to showcase the silky tannins and complex aromatics that have developed over 9 years. The wine's savoury, meaty notes and herbaceous character make it perfect for pairing with lamb, aged beef, or rich game dishes that complement its evolved palate weight.

A 96-point rating from Wine Orbit indicates exceptional quality, placing this wine in the top tier of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. This score reflects not just the wine's current drinking pleasure, but also recognises Reschke's winemaking expertise and the successful ageing process. Combined with the Five Stars rating and strong Vivino scores, it demonstrates consistent recognition across different reviewing platforms, validating the wine's outstanding quality and value proposition.

This wine is perfectly positioned at the beginning of its prime drinking window after 9 years of careful ageing. The tannins have evolved from boisterous to silky, indicating optimal maturity for current enjoyment. However, quality Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon like this can continue developing for another 5-8 years, so you could either enjoy it now for its current complexity or cellar it further to experience additional tertiary flavours and even greater integration.
