Riecine is one of the leading producers in Chianti and the greater Tuscany region. Where their contemporaries are being distracted by the power-blends with French varieties - Riecine stay dedicated to sangiovese. Purists, you might say. John Dunkley, English-born naturalised Tuscan and founder of Riecine was quoted as saying, “When Baron Philippe de Rothschild plants Sangiovese, I’ll switch to Cabernet Sauvignon.” Legend!

Why do we love this wine?

This is delicious new wave Chianti. It’s got a plushness and richness that can often be lacking in the region. There’s all of that glorious varietal character, but it’s delightfully approachable now even in spite of its undeniable age-worthiness. Think plump sour cherries and cranberries, underlaid with gravelly terracotta notes and dusty tannin. Chianti is THE food wine, so don’t miss the chance to pair with some Tuscan fare.

Frequently Asked Questions

This represents the 'new wave' approach to Chianti Classico, offering more plushness and richness than the traditionally austere styles of the region. While maintaining the classic Sangiovese character with sour cherry and earthy terracotta notes, Riecine has crafted a wine that's immediately approachable yet still built for ageing. This modern interpretation bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary winemaking techniques.

As a medium-bodied Chianti Classico, serve this wine at cellar temperature (16-18°C) to showcase its plump fruit character and dusty tannins. The wine's food-friendly nature makes it perfect for pairing with Tuscan cuisine - think grilled meats, aged cheeses, or tomato-based pasta dishes. Decanting for 30 minutes will help open up the earthy terracotta notes and soften the tannins.

This 2024 vintage offers the best of both worlds - it's delightfully approachable now with its plush fruit character, yet possesses the structure for ageing. The dusty tannins and underlying earthiness suggest it will develop beautifully over the next 5-8 years, gaining complexity and tertiary flavours. You can enjoy it immediately or cellar it to watch the sour cherry notes evolve into more savoury, leather-like characteristics.

DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is Italy's highest wine classification, guaranteeing both origin and quality through strict regulations. For Chianti Classico DOCG, this means the wine must be made primarily from Sangiovese grapes grown in the historic heartland between Florence and Siena, following traditional methods. The classification ensures you're getting an authentic expression of this renowned Tuscan terroir with government-backed quality assurance.

Riecine has earned recognition as both a 'Mofo Fave Producer' and 'Iconic Winery' for their consistent quality and innovative approach to traditional Chianti winemaking. Located in the prestigious Chianti Classico zone, they've mastered the art of creating wines that honour Sangiovese's varietal character while adding modern refinement. Their ability to produce wines that are both immediately enjoyable and age-worthy has established them as a benchmark producer in the region.
