Why do we love this wine?

This is serious shiraz, mofo. Coming from Rosenvale, a producer who have become a quick Mofo fave. We suspect, having been established over 100 years ago that we’re not the first to feel this way. As for this particular wine, after the grapes are picked at perfect ripeness to give voluptuous fruit quality, it sees a couple of years in new and seasoned French oak barrels. The resulting wine is dark and deep, with blueberries, spice and a touch of white pepper on the nose. The palate is full of fine tannins and rich red cherries and plums. It’s not just a mofo fave - it’s an all round consumer fave bringing in an impressive 4.1 rating on Vivino; Certainly not something you see every day. Calling all Barossa shiraz lovers, this one should catch your attention!

It's generously expressed in rich tones of black/blueberry and dark chocolate notes with nuances of cake spice, rich floral and cedar. The concentrated palate offers impressive density and velvety mouthfeel, making it substantial and gratifying. At its best: now to 2040.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Rosenvale Shiraz showcases the exceptional terroir of Barossa's Vine Vale Road subregion, where century-old winemaking traditions meet modern precision. The combination of perfectly timed harvest and careful French oak maturation creates a wine with remarkable depth and complexity. Its impressive 96-point Wine Orbit rating and 4.1 Vivino consumer score demonstrate both critical acclaim and broad appeal - a rare achievement that speaks to its exceptional quality and accessibility.

The strategic use of both new and seasoned French oak barrels adds layers of complexity without overwhelming the fruit. New oak contributes subtle vanilla and spice notes that complement the wine's natural white pepper characteristics, while seasoned barrels allow the rich Barossa fruit to shine through. This dual approach creates a harmonious balance where the oak enhances rather than dominates, resulting in fine tannins that provide structure while maintaining the wine's voluptuous fruit quality.

This rich, full-bodied Shiraz is perfectly suited to robust dishes that can match its intensity and complement its dark fruit profile. Classic pairings include grilled lamb with rosemary, beef brisket, or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar. The wine's spice notes and fine tannin structure also make it excellent with barbecued meats, mushroom-based dishes, or even dark chocolate desserts for those seeking an adventurous pairing.

With its excellent structure, fine tannins, and French oak foundation, this 2021 Shiraz has strong cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. The wine's current balance of fruit richness and structural elements suggests it will develop greater complexity over time, with the dark berry flavours evolving into more savoury, earthy notes. However, given its approachable style and consumer-friendly profile, it's equally enjoyable now for those who prefer immediate gratification.

Rosenvale's century-long presence in the Barossa has allowed them to develop deep understanding of their vineyard sites and refine their winemaking approach across generations. Their focus on expressing terroir while maintaining consistency has earned recognition from both critics and consumers - evidenced by this wine's multiple gold medals and high ratings. The producer's ability to craft wines that satisfy both wine experts and everyday drinkers demonstrates their mastery of balancing tradition with modern appeal.
