All class. Soft, pretty, powerful, gutsy, smooth, bold, perfumed and concentrated all at once. With nearly 5 years in the rear-view mirror, this one's only just getting started and we are so glad that we get to come along for the ride. Drink now or for years (and years) to come.

Why do we love this wine?

This particular vineyard, in the Rowland Flat area of the Barossa, sits at 380m above sea-level. At this altitude, Barossa vineyards traditionally produce much lower yields creating highly concentrated fruit of exceptional quality. From the first whiff it's quite apparent, this is a really smart wine. A perfumed nose of the expected dark fruits with floral elements of rose petal and violets. On the palate, juicy plums, dark chocolate, pepper, spice and, of course, a long, smooth, oak-driven finish. This drop is as intense as it is complex and will continue to impress for many years to come. Very, very impressive.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Three Springs vineyard sits at 380 metres above sea level in Rowland Flat, which is considered high altitude for the Barossa Valley. This elevation creates cooler conditions that naturally reduce vine yields, concentrating the fruit's flavours and creating more intense, complex wines. The altitude also helps retain acidity and allows for slower ripening, which contributes to the wine's exceptional balance and age-worthy structure.

The rose petal and violet aromatics are classic hallmarks of premium cool-climate Shiraz, enhanced by the vineyard's elevated position. These delicate floral notes emerge when Shiraz grapes ripen slowly and retain their natural acidity, allowing the more subtle aromatic compounds to develop alongside the bold dark fruit flavours. The winemaking process likely involved gentle extraction techniques to preserve these elegant characteristics while building the wine's full-bodied structure.

This wine's rich palate weight and complex flavour profile make it ideal for hearty dishes that can match its intensity. The dark chocolate and spice notes complement grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with pepper crusts. The wine's smooth oak finish and plum characteristics also pair beautifully with game meats, aged cheeses, or even dark chocolate desserts, creating harmonious flavour bridges.

The exceptional scores from Wine Orbit (97pts), Halliday Wine Companion (96pts), and Wine Pilot (96pts) reflect the wine's technical excellence and regional typicity. Critics recognise the perfect expression of high-altitude Barossa Shiraz - the concentration from low yields, the complexity from careful winemaking, and the balance between power and elegance. This consistency across different rating systems indicates a wine that successfully showcases both varietal character and terroir.

Given its full-bodied structure, high-quality fruit concentration, and oak-driven finish, this Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. Over time, the primary dark fruit flavours will evolve into more complex secondary notes of leather, tobacco, and earth, while the tannins soften and integrate. The floral elements may become more subdued, but the wine will develop greater harmony and depth, with the spice and chocolate notes becoming more pronounced.
