This is the Barossa we all fell in love with - bold, generous, unimaginably full of flavour, yet somehow still balanced and refined. From the legendary Riebke brothers’ vineyard in northern Barossa, this Teusner shiraz is everything you want from the region - plush dark fruit, warm spice and velvet texture. Big in flavour, perfectly balanced, and absurdly good value for the pedigree. You're absolutely ON here!

Why do we love this wine?

Winemaker Kym Teusner doesn’t mince words - he reckons 2020 might just be one of the best vintages in years. Low yields meant concentration off the charts, and the result is a wine overflowing with ripe plum, black fruits, cinnamon and nutmeg spice. A touch of mocha and black olive adds complexity, while soft, seamless tannins hold everything in check. The oak's kept subtle - or 'classy' might be a better word - just enough to let that lush fruit sing. The mouthfeel is all silk - rich and velvety but with enough freshness to keep you coming back for another pour. There’s generosity here, but also a deftness that only great winemakers can achieve. This is Barossa shiraz at its absolute best: deeply fruited, seriously drinkable, and incredible value for the quality inside the bottle. If you know, you know - and if you don’t yet, this is the one that’ll convert you.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2020 vintage delivered exceptionally low yields across the Barossa Valley, which concentrated flavours dramatically in the remaining grapes. This natural reduction meant each berry packed more intensity, resulting in wines with deeper colour extraction, more complex aromatics, and richer fruit concentration. Combined with ideal ripening conditions, 2020 has produced Shiraz wines that showcase the region's terroir with remarkable clarity and power.

Kym Teusner is known for his restrained approach to oak, allowing the fruit to remain the star while adding just enough barrel influence for complexity. His philosophy centres on achieving power without heaviness - creating full-bodied wines that maintain elegance and drinkability. This balance between richness and finesse sets Teusner apart from producers who might over-extract or over-oak their Shiraz.

The wine's rich plum and spice profile makes it perfect for slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, beef brisket, or game meats like venison. The mocha and black olive notes complement aged cheeses beautifully, while the soft tannins won't overpower dishes with earthy mushrooms or roasted root vegetables. For something unexpected, try it with dark chocolate desserts - the wine's natural spice and fruit intensity create a stunning match.

Quality Barossa Shiraz from exceptional vintages like 2020 typically develops beautifully over 8-12 years, with premium examples lasting even longer. The wine's balanced tannin structure and concentrated fruit will allow it to evolve gracefully, developing tertiary flavours of leather, tobacco, and dried herbs. However, given its approachable style and soft tannins, it's equally rewarding to drink now while the primary fruit flavours are at their peak.

Riebke refers to a specific vineyard site that Teusner sources from, representing some of the finest Shiraz terroir in the Barossa Valley. Single-vineyard designations like this indicate grapes from a particular plot with unique soil, aspect, and microclimate characteristics that contribute distinct flavour profiles. The Riebke vineyard likely produces fruit with the concentrated, spice-driven character that defines this wine's personality and sets it apart from broader regional blends.
