Why do we love this wine?

This single-vineyard site sits on the north-facing slopes of Coldstream, Yarra Valley, with 80% whole berries and 20% whole bunches, there's something exhilarating about this wine... A gorgeous bright ruby and crushed raspberry colour in the glass. Little flecks of blue and purple weave throughout. There is a crushed fruit aroma of raspberries and strawberries which feels very lively and close to the source. Energy and zeal in the glass. Plush and vibrant with well-integrated oak and a structure that will allow for aging, should the cellar beckon. This is brilliant small batch production from a certified Yarra icon - Warramunda.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine comes from a single north-facing vineyard site in Coldstream, which receives optimal sun exposure for ripening while maintaining the cool-climate elegance Yarra Valley is famous for. The winemaking technique of using 80% whole berries with 20% whole bunches creates exceptional aromatics and texture complexity. Warramunda's status as a certified Yarra icon and Five Stars Halliday rated winery ensures this represents the pinnacle of regional expression.

The wine's well-integrated oak and structured tannins suggest excellent aging potential of 8-12 years from vintage. Young Pinot Noir often benefits from 3-5 years of cellaring to allow the bright fruit flavours to integrate with earthy secondary characteristics. The single vineyard provenance and quality winemaking indicate this will develop beautiful tertiary notes of forest floor, mushroom, and spice with proper storage.

The wine's bright raspberry and strawberry character with earthy undertones makes it perfect for duck breast, salmon, or mushroom risotto. Light-bodied Pinot Noir excels with dishes that won't overpower its delicate structure - think roasted chicken with herbs, pork tenderloin, or aged cheeses like gruyere. The spice notes also complement Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with five-spice or ginger.

The exceptional score reflects the wine's perfect balance of varietal purity, site expression, and winemaking skill. Single vineyard Pinot Noir from premium Yarra Valley sites like Coldstream can achieve remarkable complexity and elegance. The whole berry fermentation technique preserves the grape's natural aromatics while the north-facing slope provides ideal ripening conditions, creating the energy and vibrancy that critics prize in top-tier Pinot Noir.

Using 20% whole bunches (stems included) during fermentation adds structural complexity and spice notes that complement Pinot Noir's natural fruit character. This traditional Burgundian technique increases tannin extraction and creates savoury, herbal nuances that enhance aging potential. The majority whole berry component (80%) preserves the bright fruit aromatics, creating a wine with both immediate appeal and long-term development prospects.
