Why do we love this wine?

A genuine love of the Margaret River wine region is where the Knee Deep story began. You can see that love evident in the glass here. From the elegant and finely scented complex nose of green apple and juicy pear, with floral notes of green tea and lemon balm, to the finessed and rounded palate of fresh nashi pear & nectarine and hints of spice. Youthful acidity lingers right through to the flavoursome finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Margaret River's maritime climate and limestone-rich soils create perfect conditions for Pinot Grigio, allowing the variety to retain its natural acidity while developing complex aromatics. The region's cool ocean breezes help preserve the delicate floral and citrus characteristics that make this 2023 vintage so expressive. This terroir influence is evident in the wine's minerally backbone and the way it balances freshness with flavour intensity.

While Italian Pinot Grigio tends to be crisp and neutral, this Margaret River expression showcases the variety's potential for aromatic complexity and textural richness. The Australian climate allows for fuller flavour development, evident in the nashi pear and nectarine notes, while still maintaining the variety's signature freshness. The addition of spice hints and floral tea-like aromatics demonstrates how New World winemaking can elevate this often understated variety.

The wine's minerally character and bright acidity make it exceptional with fresh seafood, particularly oysters, sashimi, or grilled fish with herbs. The nectarine and pear flavours complement Asian cuisine beautifully, especially dishes with ginger, lemongrass, or light spicing. Its aromatic complexity also pairs wonderfully with goat's cheese salads or herb-crusted chicken, where the wine's finesse won't be overwhelmed.

The 2023 vintage in Margaret River was characterised by excellent growing conditions that favoured aromatic white varieties like Pinot Grigio. Cool, steady ripening allowed grapes to develop complex flavours while retaining natural acidity, which is clearly demonstrated in this wine's balance of fruit intensity and fresh finish. The youthful acidity mentioned in the tasting notes suggests this vintage captured the ideal harmony between ripeness and freshness.

Serve well-chilled at 8-10°C to showcase the delicate aromatics and maintain the crisp, refreshing character. As a 2023 vintage, this Pinot Grigio is designed for immediate enjoyment while the fruit flavours are at their peak vibrancy. The wine's light body and aromatic profile make it perfect as an aperitif or for casual dining, though its complexity means it can handle more substantial dishes than many Pinot Grigios.
